Reading
The students have done an excellent job learning and practicing the strategies we have taught to help comprehend informational texts. We call these strategies The 3 Big Questions. They are now ready to apply those strategies to help them identify the topic, supporting details, and main idea of sections and/or the whole informational text. They will learn strategies that teach them how to focus on the text features and repeated words to help them find the implied main idea within a text.
Writing
Students are working on developing ideas for writing, editing, and producing a final piece of work while going through the writing process.
The students will begin focusing on how to write a personal narrative that centers around a small moment in their lives. By being able to narrow their focus for writing, they will be able to develop stronger, more detailed descriptions of a specific moment. They will learn how to craft a narrative that includes a problem, solution, and lesson learned. The students will also learn strategies that will help them incorporate various forms of figurative language and sensory imagery into their writing pieces. We are so excited to see what their creative minds produce!
